I find a crack along the main hull, down at the very bottom of the ship. We’re slam lucky they were still working on this ship when we stole it. The ship is full of tools and supplies and everything they were using to finish it. I find a welding machine and I spend the rest of the day repairing the crack. By the time I finish it, it looks better than it did before we took off from Isroth. In total, the entire day, Valen and I say less than ten words to each other. We’re both lost in our own heads. We need to not constantly run through it all. So that night, we both climb into bed. We don’t say anything.

Moreover, the attack seemed to infuriate the creatures, bringing out their bloodthirsty nature as they launched a frenzied attack on the ship. Boom! A massive shark rammed into the ship. The ship trembled lightly. After all, ships built to traverse the high seas would not capsize from a single shark collision. However, the next second... Bam! Thud! Boom! A massive, towering wall of boiling, green-tinted water and superheated steam shot three hundred feet into the midnight sky, tearing through the center of the bay with the force of a volcanic eruption. The leading three sea-wolf warships were caught directly in the localized geyser. The leviathan oil caking their hulls did not protect them from the sheer, crushing pressure of the boiling channel; the superheated water melted the grease in seconds, exposing the raw, cold iron plates to the sudden, extreme thermal expansion. The metal warped, cracked, and shattered with deafening, metallic screeches, sending tons of boiling sea water pouring into the holds as the massive vessels broke in half

"Notify everyone. Expand the ranch. I'll tame more defensive sea beasts." Captain White nodded and left. I stood at the entrance of my shelter and looked out at the calm sea. The undercurrents had already begun to move. Over the next few days, I took people out to search for defensive creatures that could be tamed. In a reef area, I found ironclad crabs. Their shells were as hard as metal. They could reinforce hulls and gnaw through the bottoms of enemy ships. I tamed more than a hundred and had them attach to the undersides of ships around Shallow Bay's perimeter.

​The crystallized Surgeon ship sat in the center of the Great Rift like a jagged, frozen flame. It was no longer a vessel of silver and logic; it had become a monument of prismatic silica, its internal structures visible through the translucent hull like the veins of a prehistoric insect trapped in amber. The air around it was unnervingly still, the harmonic shield of the Ninth Core vibrating against the ship's frozen surface with a low, melodic hum.
