PATIENT ZERO -The lone survivor
Baraka bellowed, stepping out of the cockpit and grabbing a thick cargo net secured to the bulkhead.
Down in the belly of the plane, six hundred refugees curled into tight balls on the freezing steel deck, covering their heads. Ren squeezed her eyes shut, wrapping her entire body around baby Amani to cushion the infant. Jabari braced his uninjured leg against a heavy supply crate, shielding Mama Zuri with his broad back.
The ground rushed up to meet them.
CRASH.
The rear landing gear hit the dry, packed earth of the savanna. The impact was catastrophic. The massive cargo plane bounced fifty feet back into the air, the heavy shock absorbers screaming as they bottomed out.
