I kept walking, driven by the cold clarity of a single thought: I will not die because of his mistake. I drew on a part of my inner light-the light he called a liability-to seal the psychic wound, pushing the pain down until it settled in my right hand. That hand had healed him. It throbbed now, not with power, but with a dull, constant ache, as if the bone itself had been bruised. It was a tangible mark of his rejection, a constant reminder of my vow.

Never have I ever felt the way I was feeling now. “Hello, Sir.” The woman at the other end of the phone kept repeating till the line went dead. I grabbed my keys and drove speedily to the hospital. Even as I drove, I wished that it was a lie. Even as I stared at the bodies of the victims, I wished I was hallucinating. Their bodies were burnt beyond recognition.

But my mind— It didn’t stay still. It went back. To her. To the way she stood in that room. Alone. Accused. And still— Unshaken. “I didn’t do it.” No hesitation. No fear. Just certainty. And then— Against my will— It went back further. To outside. To that moment. Her in his arms. My jaw clenched again. The image refused to leave. The way his hand had settled at her back. The way he had pulled her close. The way she had—

He sent a single, coded message: “Secure the girl. And for the man that shields him, bring him to me in pieces. If she tries to be stubborn, don't spare her.” His hand hovered over the phone for a while. Then he talked on the screen and the message was sent. As he sent the message, a wave of cold, sickening dread washed over him. He had just given authorization to capture the girl he raised, the woman he, in his own twisted way, come to care for. But it was too late for regrets. In this world, there was no room for sentiment. There was only survival.

My bruises from those earlier abuses hadn’t fade out yet. And what was worse was the emotional abuse I had been going through. I felt my heart ache every single time when I remembered those nicknames Nigel and Melany gave me: Tramp. Bitch. Filthy Rat. Garbage. I wasn’t alright. At all. My long silence gave Gray some clues and I heard his tone turned cold instantly, “What had that bastard done to you?” “…Nothing.” Too much, actually. “Stop lying to me Regina!” Gray roared, “You are obviously not alright! And you are expecting me to stand aside and pretend nothing has happened?! I can’t do that! Either you tell me, or I am invading Shadow Valley and tear that son of a bitch apart RIGHT NOW!”

He turned and practically ran down the stairs, nearly tripping over his own feet in his rush to get away. Purple watched him go, a mixture of relief and annoyance washing over her. She’d done what she’d set out to do—but something felt off. Reid? She was certain Echo had said his name was Echo Reid. Could they be related? “That’s impossible,” she whispered, shaking her head as disbelief warred with recognition in her eyes. “The Echo I met last night was… he was working as a call boy. But you—you were born into wealth. You can’t be the same man.”

Her gaze hardened. “And now you stand here, in front of me, saying sorry like it’s supposed to fix something?” “K..Karline..” “While you were busy whoring around with your mistress,” she spat, venom dripping from the word. “I never_” “Don’t,” she snapped. “Don’t lie to me now. I lived it.” Reid’s voice dropped, hoarse and unsteady. “I was blind,” he whispered. “I was manipulated. My anger, my pride, my jealousy..I let them control me. I didn’t see the truth then. But I never had any other woman except you kar”

"I'm so sorry my love, I'm so sorry... He was hurting you. Xavier said and I looked at him to see the remorse in his face. He was truly remorseful for his actions. I'm not sure if he's so sorry because of my reaction or Mark's. Either way, I quickly ran to Mark as I slid to his side. A few minutes later I heard somebody running down the stairs and looked over my shoulder to see Reid running down the stairs toward us. He quickly ran to Anders and pushed us away. Mark looked at him horrified that he was just pushed away from his unconscious mate. I knew what was going to happen and I grabbed Mark and pulled him back further. Mark struggled against me as he desperately tried to get to his uncon

“Hey bro. How’s mate life?” “Reid, I’m killing her father.” I growled into the phone. “What the fuck happened?” I explained everything from the multiple rapes and torture, to the whole business of not having an heir, to her father molesting her. Four years of abuse, torture, lies, and her behavior. By the end of it, Reid is growling on the phone. “Yeah, that motherfucker dies.” Reid said. “She is a killer. Why hasn’t she done it?”
