Nothing happened, though, and relief instantly filled me. Every other time as soon as ink had gotten onto the page, I would be transported into the book. However, this time nothing happened, which might be because I hadn’t used the quill since the ink just spilled. No longer frozen, I recalled the knock on the door and rose from my desk. I was about to take a step when suddenly my living room dissolved into inky blackness. An inky blackness that had only been in a couple of times when the three musketeers of assholes paused my story. Which means I was in my book, 1001 Dark Tales. I instantly started praying that for once those three weren’t in the books with me. In the next second, I realize

Scribbled all over the cheap paneled walls, along with words which sounded hauntingly familiar but strange at the same time: Lake Hyades . a lake in which hideous, rubbery yellow things thrashed . . . Crawling Chaos, Nyarlathotep, Hali. Words I recognized dimly from history lessons: Crotoan, Roanoke. Written there several times was the name of that place I supposedly took Mystery Philosophical guy, Carcosa. Also, Assatur, Xastur, H’aaztre, Hastur . . . Lt. Hastoor

The gaps between entries got longer and longer, and he complained more and more about all the time he lost to his debilitating moods. The only thing that seemed to lift his spirits was finding a certain specialist bookseller. Matthew had continued to collect rare books on the occult, and he was always looking for book shops to sell the paper he wrote on the ancient forest. This bookseller not only took several copies of his paper, he also sold Matthew a unique grimoire by an unknown author. The grimoire fascinated Matthew, and he made notes on it in his journal. Sally couldn’t understand much of what he wrote, but she found one entry, towards the end of the journal, very interesting:

Lankko closed his eyes and heard the cluck of the chicken against the chirping of the many insects of the forest. "Enjoying your mud bath?" Lankko heard Enzir's voice. He opened his eyes and saw the muddy face and body of his master. Lankko sat up and tried not to laugh at his master's appearance.
