Curse Of Blood Rubies Novels & Stories

Because of the curse the witches cast on me—as punishment for trying to balance the powers between all creatures and defy their claim to supremacy—immortality clung to me like a second skin, both gift and burden entwined. I buried my parents. My friends. My pack. Century after century, I watched them fall away, one by one. And I know, with a certainty that still steals my breath, that one day I will watch Rowan die too. Naturally, or not. Even my fated mate, if he ever truly existed, would slip beyond my reach, the curse shadowing every instinct, clouding every bond before it could fully form.

Tapping his chin, he mused aloud, “Ahh, a Fenrisúlfr, huh?” The name alone gave his fur a shiver—though he’d never admit that to Shu. “Big bad wolf of the old pantheons… chaos spirit of destruction… giant fangs… wrath issues… existential grudges against celestial bureaucracy…” Yin listed off gleefully, counting on his fingers like he was ordering pastries. He giggled. “Yes, scary man. Very scary. Damn scary. I want to meet him.” Because Yin, truly, was a menace in fluffy disguise.

“How do I open it?” “One condition.” She shook her head slowly, her fingers tangling around each other, knuckles white. “Just… tell me.” A second of silence passed, then another. The air dipping with every second that passed. I released a small breath, kneading the crease between my brows. “A blood ruby is an ancient jewel infused with the blood of a witch.” I started, watching as her posture straightened, her body unconsciously leaning forward. “The blood acts as some kind of compass, a gateway from one point to another.”

Ruby arrived just after sundown, hooded, hair damp with rain. “You felt it too?” Zara asked without turning. “Yeah,” Ruby said. “I was in the Hollow Ward. A mirror cracked clean down the middle just from a shift in the pack bond. Something’s rippling.” “It's him,” Zara said softly. “The curse is mutating.” Ruby crossed the room, dropping onto the bench beside her. “Do we have a plan?” Zara shook her head. “We have theories. But none of them end with him safe.”

I’m crawling out with a trail of blood: their blood. They think I’ll crawl when I leave, but they’re wrong. I’ll drag myself out by the teeth, trailing their blood behind me. I’ll rise like a curse, wearing their blood like a crown. And maybe by then, my blood won’t just answer to me—it will devour for me. Let them keep carving. Every cut is a summoning.

“What are you thinking over there? You’re way too excited for a midnight drive to your parents’ place.” Merrick pulled me out of my thoughts. “I have an idea.” I leaned toward him. “When we get to my parents’ house, we can test it out while there’s someone to pull us apart if it doesn’t work.” “What’s the plan?” he prodded. “The ruby could pull energy through clothes, right? But maybe our curse doesn’t work that way. Maybe we can still cuddle, as long as there’s a layer of fabric between us.” Merrick’s eyes didn’t brighten like I hoped. “It’s not likely. The curse seems to work the same way with us as the ruby did.”

A freak accident that left me completely alone in the world. But now, I couldn’t help but wonder. Were they werewolves too? Had they known this would happen to me? Alaric said the curse didn’t activate unless you killed someone. If they were werewolves, had they never triggered the curse? Or was it something else entirely? I glanced at the window, where the light of the setting sun was fading, giving way to the night. The full moon was coming. I could feel it—a strange hum at the back of my mind, growing stronger with each passing moment.
