The frontmost one stepped forward, twin daggers spinning in his hands. “Jude Seraphin,” he said, voice distorted through the mask. “You’ve grown too bold.” I smiled. “And you’ve grown too stupid.” He lunged. His blades moved fast, but not fast enough. I caught his wrist mid-strike, twisting until the bones snapped like dry twigs. His scream was short-lived.

Patton passes out after a long, guttural howl, but Blake remains motionless–lifeless. My stomach curls as dread fills my system, temporarily distracting my powers. The Viper frees herself from the rubble and rushes in my direction, her left leg obviously weak and dragging behind her when she raises her hands. Her fingers glow silver from her powers surging between her fingers, knitting into something solid–twin blades that grow and stretch with each wobbly step she takes toward Soren.

Unless struck from the air with a sword, dazzling white light exploded where they hit, coating the soldiers with glowing powder. Only one grenade struck, and those soldiers immediately removed from the field.

She had built a world of glass and thought it would protect her forever. I reached down and touched the ceramic blade in my waistband. Ray after ray of bladed energy came swiping past, coming together into a harmony of serrated, electrified edges. It was a manifestation of the sharpest swords the world had to offer. Zephyr wasted no time unleashing his electrical fury upon the undead assailants. His last stroke easily cut the last rider into pieces as it joined the other unmoving pile.
