After I got home I was excited to draw in one of my sketch books, I've already browsed on my phone to see what good portraits I can draw of Mommy or Daddy or they can be just the two of them in the same portrait. It's just that I've seen all the pictures on my phone, I don't really like any of their pictures that can be drawn. It was hidden among the books as if the Princess didn’t want anyone to have access to it. “Here it is!” she screamed with a mild smile and I was forced to also smile with her because she was so cute with her messy hair and oily face. We both opened the book and flipped through the pages. We were almost giving up when we landed on the page that showcased drawings. “What are these? Are they part of the books?” I asked looking closely but she couldn’t provide any answer since I also didn’t know. We stared for few minutes but nothing was coming to my mind. She was about giving up when I suddenly grabbed the book.

All they did in my class was practice adding and subtracting. Mom got a funny look on her face when I told her that I like to draw during math. While the other kids werre counting on their fingers I would pretend to be working in my workbook. Truthfully, I was sketching. I had some cool drawings in that workbook, hidden way in the back. I like to draw weather events, uncontrolled power unleashed on unsuspecting souls. I liked hurricanes and tornadoes the best. I loved the power a storm generated. The inevitable destruction it would cause was fun to try to put on paper. Sometimes I would see a storm raging in my mind and I could barely draw fast enough to get all the details on the page

Simple and complex at the same time. Back in my room, I sat at my desk. The black-covered notebook was already open, a pencil beside it. I looked at the blank page for a few seconds and, without thinking too much, began to draw. The lines appeared almost by themselves. First, a feminine gaze, with long eyelashes. Then, the outline of a smiling mouth. My fingers kept moving, adding subtle details — a scarf over her shoulders, a book in her hands. It wasn't Giulia. Not exactly. But somehow, it seemed to have something of her in it.

I pulled out the chair and sat on it then I unlocked the built-in drawer under the desk where I kept my sketchbook and pulled it out. I got out my pencils and other drawing materials then I flipped to a blank page on the sketchbook and paused. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, willing the image of the bird from my dream to come back to me because I wanted to draw it. I couldn't explain why, but I felt like I needed to draw whatever I saw in my dreams. Drawing them just made me feel a whole lot better and that way, I ensured that I never forgot whatever I had dreamt about.

“Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Excellent book.” He sits down and begins reading. The first picture I draw is a portrait of uncle Owen’s sister with a wolf howling at the edge of a cliff at a full moon in the background. I make one for his father too. I plan to give them these at the funeral. I do similar ones of Michael to give to Carrie and one for Zuri but with a lion for the family.

Almost like there were two pages stuck together, I try to pull them apart with my fingers but I was worried about ripping the page and having to pay to replace the book in the library. Putting the book down I go to the kitchen to grab a sharp knife, wishing that I had one of those fancy letter openers that I have seen in old movies. Returning back to the desk I gently shimmy the tip of the blade between the pages, once the tip is in I slowly slide the rest of the blade in. I hear the pages begin to break apart, thankful that the actual pages didn’t rip, then I see more pages than expected between them. Smaller ones, thin like an old bible, yellowed with page break apart.

A minute later Keyla heard cupboard doors opening in the kitchen. Leo, at the table with paper and crayons, was drawing something he'd been working on since breakfast. Three figures in a house — the same round heads and stick bodies he always used, circles for heads, lines for bodies, and a square structure around them with a door. He'd labeled none of them, which was unusual; Usually there would already be letters beside each figure. Something seemed to occur to him. He switched crayons and went back to the drawing. Only then did Keyla look away from the contract. She leaned slightly toward the drawing. "Who's that?"

Blowing some breath out of my mouth, I pushed the shelf back to its place and stacked the books back in their rows. Humming a tune, I walked down the stairs and plopped on the chair behind the desk, tossing the journal on the desk. It made a loud thumping sound that echoed around the gigantic walls of the library. “Let’s see what you got, old friend.” I muttered and unbuttoned the strap of the journal before opening it. My eyes narrowed on the handwriting. It was very beautiful and elegant. There were some diagrams on it too. But what were they about? My lips shaped the words written on the second page. I kept reading for a few minutes before my eyes widened and a gasp left my lips. ********

They didn't speak much and so I feel like I should continue my words to break this silence. "I am not that sure about what I am about to say but I've read this in some book I saw in the library. Although the credibility of that book is something I can't guarantee" I sat on the ground and pick up the pencil I had with me. Opening the small book I have, I started to draw on the blank page that is not pure white in color. They just keep silent and let me continue my drawing. "Have you heard about the Heminrey plant?"
