Pregnant For My Father-in-Law
Another drop fell, hotter than the bathwater, and my breath caught.
Slowly, I lifted my hand to his face and tried to pull him up.
He resisted for a second but then he let me.
I looked at him and everything inside me stopped.
Dax was crying.
Not loudly or broken in the way people cried when they wanted to be heard. His face was still controlled, jaw clenched like he hated every tear that betrayed him, but they were there, sliding down his cheeks in silent lines that made him look more human than I had ever seen him.
