"Charlie, calm down," Elara warns, looking at the screen. "Your blood pressure is spiking again. You need to breathe."
"I can't breathe!" I gasp. "I’m trapped, Elara! I’m trapped in this bed, in this life, and the only person who could have broken me out climbed out the window to go play hero!"
A sudden, vicious tightening seizes my abdomen.
It’s not like the cramps from before. This is a vice. A crushing, paralyzing pressure that wraps around my lower back and squeezes until I see stars.
