The one pulling strings.” Adrian looked at him with a mixture of resentment and resignation. “You already know.” Damian’s eyes narrowed, but he didn’t answer. Elena’s confusion deepened. “What is he talking about?” Adrian turned to her, and his voice softened. “Your grandfather’s right hand. The one who always said Damian was too unpredictable. Too dangerous. Too much like your mother.” The world seemed to tilt. “You don’t mean" “Yes,” Adrian said. “Sebastian.”

“Your father had some of the best-trained fighters. With them on my side, no one would dare challenge us. And the land, it’s underutilized. I could make it thrive.” I clenched my fists. “You mean your side,” I murmured. His jaw tightened, but he kept his composure. “Our side. Everything I do is for us, for our future. You understand that, don’t you?” I looked away, my chest tightening. I knew Damien well enough to recognize his tactics, calm, logical, like he was doing me a favor. But I also knew the truth. He didn’t just want warriors; he wanted control. “Just talk to your brothers,” he pressed. “They’ll listen to you.”

He had been ecstatic when Richard called to invite him to see Damien's downfall, courtesy of Patriarch Tae himself. Damien turned to his grandfather. "So this was all planned, huh?" Grandpa Tae smiled back at him. "No, it wasn't. I just wanted to test your skills. It’s been years since we played games like this." Damien clenched his fists. This was exactly why he never wanted to set foot in this place. His grandfather had a twisted mind and always wanted others to adapt to his brutal way of thinking. Damien had worked hard to run the business successfully just to stay far away from him, but it seemed his efforts still weren't enough.

DAMIEN “Alright, Dad,” I said, leaning against the wall of the study. “Let’s hear it. Grandpa says you tried to kill him. Care to explain?” My father’s head snapped up, his expression flipping between disbelief and annoyance. “He said what?” “You heard me,” I replied, crossing my arms. “He says you plotted to kill him for the company.” Dad groaned and ran a hand over his face, muttering something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like a curse. “Damien, your grandfather has always been dramatic, but this? This is a new low.”

Of course, our parents would side with him, as usual. But I was surprised to hear the thundering voice of our grandfather. “Enough, Damon. Damian is still your brother.” His voice was the only reason that made our parents’ bodies ease up a little. Damon chuckled. The sound grated on my ears. “Grandpa. You always believed in Damian, but he had lied even to you.” My breath hitched. I looked at my grandfather with that sad expression on my face. Maybe it’s high time I gave up on him, too.

“Grandma, you don’t have to—” “I do. You may be busy playing CEO, but I still have the right to visit my only grandson.” Damian sighed in defeat. “Fine, Grandma. I’ll have someone pick you up when you land.” “Excellent,” she said with a satisfied hum. “And Damian—?” “Yes?” “Be kind. You have your father’s temper, and that never served anyone well.” The line went dead before he could answer. Later that morning, Damian was in the living room with his laptop, half-immersed in work and half-drowning in irritation.

Grandfather insisted. But I knew Damian wouldn’t back down that easily. I knew just how much he despised Uncle Sam after what happened to me. Even though Damian had listened to me and refrained from killing Uncle Sam on the spot, I was sure he still had other plans for revenge. And the fact that Grandfather wanted to take over only infuriated Damian because he refused to trust him.

He wanted her with him. He sighed. "Damian Gray," he scoffed. He did not have a personal beef with the president of the council, but he hated their whole family line. After all, it had been Damian's grandfather who was in charge 3 centuries ago when they concentrated their attacks against Lycans and the mountain Alps instead of focusing on bigger threats - like the vampires. After his grandfather passed away, Damian's father did not have the ambition or ruthlessness that his grandfather had possessed. But then Damian was born, and he had double the ambition. He and Mitch clashed numerous times in the human world as they were both business moguls with many companies.
