The man was breathing in short, wet pulls. "He's alive," Adrian said. "Barely. The other one bolted the second I fired. East, into the woods." Alexander crouched beside the wounded man, gripping his collar hard enough to force his eyes open. Up close he looked young. Maybe thirty. Stubble and a scar across his jaw. "Who sent you?" The man's laugh came out wet, pained. "You already know." "Say it !" "Victor doesn't sign his own work." The man's eyes flicked, briefly, toward Rosalie. Calculating. "But he's not the only one who wanted you both here today."

It was brief, but enough for my mind to stagger a bit. This man is dangerous... way too dangerous. “What do you say? Do we have a deal?”

I whisper, grabbing the man’s shirt and pulling him to me. When our mouths meet, excitement mixed with danger rush through me, spurring me forward as my need to explore that danger continued until I’m drowning. “Fuck, darling,” the man groans as I start to undo his pants. “I figured you were bold, but don’t you know how dangerous what you’re doing is?” “I do,” I assure him, pulling his pants down and then moving for the boxers. “But I like danger.” “Even if that danger could end up ruining you?”

Eli whispers, panicked. “Don’t. Don’t do anything stupid.” Damian’s eyes flick to him—soft, full of something devastating and protective. Then he says, quietly: “Baby. I don’t do stupid.” A pause. “I do lethal.” Eli’s stomach drops. The stranger’s gaze flicks between them. Sweat drips down his temple. He’s losing control. Desperate. Cornered. That’s the most dangerous kind of man. Eli’s voice cracks. “Damian, please don’t get shot. Please.”

“It’s safer for you at his house.” “Safer from what?” “Everything,” Marco replied softly, his gaze pleading for me to understand. “Those people who were following us… the ones who sent them know where I live. It’s not safe for you there, especially if I’m not around.” Yesterday, after saying I wouldn’t regret choosing to be with Marco, I tried convincing myself that life with him wouldn’t be as smooth as a fairytale romance. Marco wasn’t a regular guy. He was a wealthy man who carried a gun, the kind of person who gets picked up by suited men and rides in luxury cars right after stepping off a plane.
