I rush back to them where Danny lies on the ground, his breathing shallow. His eyes are closed, his chest rising and falling too slowly. My stomach twists with dread.
"Danny, the police are on their way. You're going to be okay," I say, touching his face. It feels cold, too cold, like the life is already slipping away from him.
