Celine smirked. ‘You’re an asshole. Who are you anyway? Do you know who I am?’ ‘Celine keeps calling you Dante, so I assume that’s your name. Or did you forget?’ Max huffed. Dante huffed, offended. How can this nobody make fun of him in front of Celine? He’s never even heard of him before. I’d told Victor Reyes, to meet me here, and I waited, my jaw tight, my thoughts sharp. A man in a dark hood approached, moving quickly through the market stalls. He glanced around, nervously before slipping into the backseat. Nico tensed, hand on his gun, but I waved him off. It was Reyes. He pulled off the hood, revealing a sweaty face and thinning hair. He smiled, trying to look confident, but his eyes darted, showing fear. “Dante Moretti,” he said, his voice loud and eager. “It’s an honor. Your success in the green side is impressive. You’re a legend. Thank you for giving me this chance to meet.”

I follow the blonde, evading her hand when she tries to link it through my arm. “Cain, finally.” Darius is sitting at the table next to a blonde boy, but Flame is nowhere to be seen. He gestures to the blonde boy. “This is Damien and I assume you’ve met Gale and Ollie. There’s also Emery and Leila…” He emphasises the last name, as if to remind me that Flame is using her middle name with the humans. “Have just popped upstairs to get their jackets.” “Here.” Gale places a plate down on the table and pats the chair. Some sort of filled tortilla’s are on the plate and they smell amazing.

He stood with a towel slung around his neck, jersey clinging to his sweat-slick chest, smile sharp and lazy. Beside him was Dante Reyes. Fast. Lean. Impossibly good. The kind of player who moved like the ball obeyed him and everyone else was just trying to keep up. His hair was damp, green eyes glittering with amusement as he looked me over. Both of them grinned when they saw me. “Chrissmel, right?” Dante asked, his voice light, teasing. My throat closed up. “Y-yeah. Yes. I—fuck—” Leo smirked, stepping closer. “Relax. We’re not gonna bite.” His eyes flicked down my body, deliberate, lingering in ways that made my knees shake. “Unless you want us to.”

I brought it up again and I’m not stopping until he gives me his name. “I’m Angelo.”

Dante drawled with a cold face. Renee swallowed. Should she call him uncle more so she would get spanked tonight? She couldn’t understand herself anymore. She was getting too naughty. “Who are you?"Dante asked Arturo. “I’m Arturo Medina.My father is Matteo Medina. Our family does cosmetics business."

I had faith that Dane could and would. The man chuckled once more and remarked, “If you believe so.” He shook his head while still laughing and added, “He was unable to rescue Selena. How will he save you?” Then he slapped my ass. I let out a yelp, and fury burned through me. He was the one who killed Dane’s mate. “You bastard!” I sent a blow on the side of his head with all my strength, causing us to lose our balance and fall onto the cold forest floor.

He swallowed, looking back down at Isla. “Yeah,” he said quietly. “She is.” And for the first time in a long time, I saw a glimpse of the boy I once knew. The one who existed before the weight of his title, before the bitterness and pain. For the first time since returning, I saw Damon. Not just the Alpha. Not just the man who had hurt me. And for a fleeting moment, I let myself believe that maybe there was still a part of him that could be saved. A little part of humanity that we could still hold onto…

I said, face stern. He chuckled softly, the sound rich and easy. “Mind if I join you? Or are you here to drink alone and curse the universe?” I shrugged. He took that as permission and moved to the stool right beside me. He signaled the bartender for another round for both of us. “I’m Damian Reyes,” he said, extending his hand. His grip was firm but not overpowering. “Real estate development. I saw the UrbanAxis news today. Congratulations.” I narrowed my eyes, eyebrows creased as I dropped the glass back onto the counter.

He only nodded, as quiet as always, and suddenly I felt a little lost, until firm footsteps made me look toward the building’s entrance. A tall man with wiry muscles and dark hair was walking toward me, staring at me with deep brown eyes. I straightened up and walked toward him too. “Ma’am, I’m Dante, Head of Operations and Logistics,” he said, at least with a little more courtesy than the rest of the men I’d met. “Mr. Dante, the Patriarch asked me to come urgently...” I said, half debating whether to ask him what the hell was going on here. “We need a sign language interpreter...” I was surprised to hear him say that... “but let’s go, I’ll explain on the way. The meeting’s about to start an
