CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE: Friday night was consumed with nightmares and at 4am I decided to give up trying to sleep. I leaned over to my nightstand and pulled out a book and a reading light. Might as well take this time to get something useful done rather than scroll away on I*******m again. It had been a bit but I was finally reading to finish the last book in this fantasy romance series I loved. I hadn’t wanted the story to end so I had put off reading the last book. I loved the romance between the two main characters, a bad-guy fae who turned out to be the good guy all along, and a human girl who finds herself thrown into a world of magic. I just loved their relationship, and the whole concept

I needed to be clear-minded right now more than ever. "You are not alone in the world, you only think you are. There exists more creatures than can be imagined, the gods are not as boring as you may think, they have proven to be very creative in their work. There are humans, werewolves and vampires and many many more, most of whom lurk in the shadows hiding away from your kind." She paused, pushed away the scarf I had wrapped around my neck and took a good look at the healing scar caused by Hoff's attack.

But I don’t dare move a muscle or make a sound, fearing Xander will lose a body part. Fear is no longer a word I’d use to describe what I’m feeling. Neither is horror or terror. Daniel had survived over a century in hell before conceding to Lucifer, Abbadon was nothing compared to that. Just as Abbadon retched her hand back to slap Daniel, he swung his sword at her, an action he knew was going to cost him greatly. The sword made contact with her neck and black ooze began dripping from the wound. She looked at him in utter shock as she brought her hand up to feel the sticky, wet substance coming out. She closed her eyes and the coffee shop had suddenly disappeared and they were back in the one place Daniel never wanted to see again. Hell.

It started small, like a spark, then grew, filling every nerve, every fibre of her being. “Go! Go now, Clara!” her grandmother urged, her eyes glistening with tears and pride. Before Clara could question it, the warmth exploded outward. Time itself seemed to shiver. The firelight warped and stretched, the screams became distant echoes, and the ground beneath her feet disappeared. One moment, she was on scorched earth. The next, she was falling. The world around her blurred, colours and shapes twisting in impossible ways. She felt weightless, suspended between moments, suspended between worlds. Then, as suddenly, as it began, it ended.
