Jaxon stood before it, motionless, as the feed replayed his own orchestrated destruction.
Raven stepped behind him. Her voice was low, deliberate. “You did it.”
He didn’t look at her. “Not yet."
The glow of fire reflected in his eyes, painting him in a light too red to be victory.
She hesitated, searching for something human in his expression. There was control and power, but the warmth that had lived beneath it, the part that had whispered promises against her skin, seemed buried for now.
As dawn began to rise over the Hudson, the war was far from over. The Don had returned, and Raven, standing in the shadow of his rebirth, wondered how much of the man she loved would survive it.
