Daryl blinked at me, his face blank for a second like he was trying to catch up.
"Yeah, uh, we don’t got much in common. I mean, have. Darren’s all smart with the hearts and machines and stuff. Me? I’m finishing up my associate’s in, uh, automotive tech. Fixing cars, you know? Engines are like hearts, kinda. Boom-boom." He made a vague pumping motion with his fist, chuckling to himself. Everyone else just nodded awkwardly.
Daryl kept stealing glances at me, winking once like we shared a secret. It made my skin itch. I stayed quiet, picking at my food.
