Alexis's Perspective I won't let anyone walk all over me. "All right, Mr. Blake, how can I help you?" I asked, keeping a smile on my face, even though the dean's strange gaze still lingered in my mind. "You're having fun at this human university, aren't you?" he said. His eyes sparkled as if he was genuinely enjoying this conversation, causing me to tilt my head and look at him more closely. Was he mocking me, or was he actually complimenting me?

“Why don’t we forget all this plotting and just… spend some time together right now?” Stan smiled genuinely, his eyes warm. “You’re nothing but trouble, Dean,” he said, his voice teasing. “But yeah. Let’s do that instead.” I grinned, pulling him close again, my lips brushing his ear lightly. “That’s more like it,” I whispered, my voice soft. The weight of schemes and plans faded from my mind for the moment.

She slid her hands over his broad shoulders and stepped around him with a small smile on her face. Seeing the smile on her face and feeling her soft hands on his neatly trimmed beard, drew a relieved smile to his face and his eyes involuntarily fell shut. “I want him back.” Deagan’s eyes shot open in alarm. “Who?” his eyes darted around the room. “The Deagan that I know, the one with an effortless smile, the one who stops at nothing to impress me. I can’t deal with this stoic, emotionless version of you.” Her eyebrows drew into a frown and he itched to smooth away the crease, but his hands fiated at his sides to resist the urge.

But the dullness in his eyes had vanished, replaced by a startling intensity. A vibrant light seemed to emanate from within him, illuminating his face with an almost otherworldly glow. A smile, wide and genuine, stretched across his lips, erasing the weariness that had haunted him moments before. It was a smile that radiated pure joy, a smile that seemed to defy the darkness that had threatened to consume him.

It was the alpha standing there without all of the regality, instead clean shaven and embodying his casual flair. “Declan, what are you doing here?” He cooed at the toddler, scooping him swiftly so that they were standing at similar heights. I saw him break a toothy smile for his son, running a hand through his hair and smiling a little wider when Declan leaned into his touch. Now that I thought of it, I’d never seen him smile. Not at me, not at the guards, not at his visitors, not even at his beta. I’d subconsciously wired myself to believe that he could never break a smile for any being, but here he was proving me wrong with the most beautiful smile I may see in this lifetime.
