Waiting for me was a text from Smart, the one I had felt would never contact me again. "I've thought about it for days now, Jay. I think I would like to be your friend. Not ones with benefits. "Yes, I'm really grateful for your help." "Hey, why say that, we are good friends, right? And you know one thing, I miss you. Eh, I mean ... I can't wait to meet tomorrow."

The message read, Dear Christina, You’re the best friend that I’ve ever had, and the best friend that anyone would ever hope to have. You brought happiness into my life at a time when I was in despair and thought that I would never ever see even a glimpse of happiness, and for that, I will be eternally grateful. You tried your best to help me out of that horrific place I called home, and I do not take that for granted. I’ve tried as much as I can to bear the situation at home, but it gets worse by the day, so I’ve decided to run away.

The text said it all. "I got home in one piece. The trucks were clearer this time. Good morning. Happy one-day friendship anniversary, friend." I typed a response right away. "Me: I have never heard of a one-day friendship anniversary; I don’t think it’s a thing. Plus, it hasn’t been twenty-four hours." Almost right away, I got a reply from Jack. "Jack: You’ve never heard of a friendship anniversary?" With a shocked face emoji. "Me: I’ve heard of that but never a one-day friendship anniversary."

He types, making my smile widen. "At the bar where are you?" I typed back, glancing around the crowded room. The place was indeed a popular club. Given it was Friday night, the place was crowded with people ranging from college students to people who were enjoying the night after a long week of work. "I'm about to park. Be there soon. The line is crazy long." He typed. I showed the message to my friend Aria, who chuckled, downing her beer and standing up. "I got this. Be right back." She says as she walks toward the entrance.
