"Auntie Em, please…"
"Shut up!" Emma roared.
My legs gave way, and I sank to my knees, the rough concrete scraping my skin.
"You can kill me, Emma," I whispered, my voice trembling. "But please, let Caro go. She's done nothing to you."
For a moment, everything was silent except for the sound of our ragged breathing. Then, Emma spoke in a low and deadly voice.
"Any last words?"
I shut my eyes tighter as tears leaked out. There was so much I wanted to say, to Caro, Leo, to the world… but the words wouldn't come. This was it. This was the end.
And then, the deafening roar ripped through the air again. Emma pulled the trigger.
