Dylan explained. Declan nodded his head. “Yeah, I get that; it's the same way with my two daughters. I mean, people know that I have kids, but that's it. We're married.” Dylan told him, and then Declan frowned his face, and after a few minutes, he smiled.

"It was my job as Grayson's lead strategist." Declan let out a soft, dark hum. "Did you watch my interview stream yesterday morning?" I gripped my purse so hard my knuckles turned white. Sweat broke out on my palms. He was talking about the live broadcast where he explicitly stated he was looking for a female who had been stolen from him years ago. "What... what interview?" I lied, keeping my face as blank as I could manage. "I was busy reviewing territorial maps all day." Declan’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits, scanning my flushed face like he could see straight through my weak human lie. But instead of calling me out, a slow, predatory smirk spread across his face.

“That is good. Every Alpha should have a Luna. It is good that you want to settle down.” I smiled and looked at him, wondering if I should ask the question that had been burning at the back of my mind. “What about you?” I decided to ask. “Are you happy with your own mate? Are you happy with Mira?” Declan laughed and glanced briefly and Dorian, who was standing nearby. I caught the look they shared and then he turned back to me and replied, “yes, I am happy.” I nodded, but I did not believe him, because I could see through his words, through his practiced smile. He was not happy. He was just good at pretending.
