Chapter Two

Images started to flash in my mind, like a slideshow replaying the events of my night. I could hear a faint voice in the back of my head telling me to wake up, that I need to be awake to fully understand what was happening. Sapphire eyes, a bloody women, a creepy abandoned school, being hit over the head and falling in the arms of a menacing stranger. My eyes fluttered until realization set it. Frantically opening my eyes, I felt sick when I looked out the window and did not see anything I recognized. My head was throbbing as I tried to focus on any one thing passing through the window.

"Where am I? Why am I moving? Wait... Where are they taking me?" I thought as I looked in the front seat in horror.

One of my kidnappers started talking, as I tried to focus on their faces. The driver had sleek blonde hair, with a softer voice but still sent a chill down my spine when he spoke. The passenger had curly hair, that looked as black as midnight. Since I was laying in the backseat, I could not make out any more features of my two kidnappers.

"What have you done, Didi?" the guy in the driver’s seat said.

"I didn't do anything and stop calling me Didi." the passenger snapped angerly.

"If you didn't do anything, then why is there a human girl in the back of my car Alpha?" the driver said, referring to me. "Is she going to be you're new little plaything for awhile?"

His voice turned sly, and it immediately pushed my internal panic button. My body flew up, trying to open the doors in the backseat. I have seen this in movies before, where you can jump from moving cars and live, maybe I could do it too if I tuck and roll. The dark haired main realized that I was awake and gave the driver a glare.

"Don't worry, the child locks are on. So, I will ask you again, why we are bringing her ho-"

I interrupted his question as my foot connected to the back of his head, causing the car to swerve from lane to lane.

"Let me out!" I scream, launching myself at the driver, but this time with my hands.

"You're going to get us killed! Sit the fuck down!" the passengers voice demands as his hand pushed my chest back. His eyes met mine in the rear-view mirror as I sat back down.

Sapphire eyes.

"Screw you! I don't have to listen to you!" I spat back, forcing my gaze away from his, getting angrier as the seconds went on.

"She's sure is feisty, Alpha." the driver says to the Sapphire eyed man. "You're going to have your hands full with that one."

I flashed him the middle finger in the rear-view mirror.

"Where are you taking me?" I ask, this time without kicking someone in the head.

"It's a surprise!" The driver says to me. He flashed me his gold eyes and my voice instantly catch in my throat. Who are these guys?

"Alpha, I'll ask again. Why is she so loud, and why are we taking her with his?"

"Because she’s, my mate." he said flatly.

"What? You're sure?" he replied back.

"I could smell her from a mile away. I was hoping it wasn't true, but I couldn't bring myself to leave her once I found her."

The driver bursts into laughter and I shift in my seat, getting more uncomfortable at his sudden mood swing.

"This isn't funny!" The sapphire eyed man snaps back.

"Its kind of is, Didi." he says, stifling another giggle. "Of all the people who could have ended up with a human, it had to be you!"

They continue to bicker back and forth, paying no attention to me in the back seat.

To scared to say anything, I inched smaller into the seat. Maybe if I stayed quiet, this will be over quicker. A strange voice in the back of my head was telling me that I am not actually in danger, but I ignored it.

As if picking up on my fear, the sapphire eyed mans eyes met mine in the rear-view mirror. His eyes look almost black, like they did before I passed out.

"JJ, look how scared she is. Isn't she precious?" he says to the driver reaching a hand back to touch my face. I slap it away and cower deeper into the car cushions, wishing I could just disappear.

"She just kicked me in the back of the head, she doesn't seem very precious to me Alpha." He snorts back, rubbing his head with his hand.

"She won't attack you again, will you?" he says, looking into my eyes deeply.

"No promises." I retort back. He lets out a small laugh, as a smirk started to form on his face.

"She's actually kind of funny. I'd like her if she weren’t trying to kill us." the driver chimed.

"Wait... let us take a step back here. What did you mean when you said I was your mate?" I said, trying to make sense of the situation I was currently in.

"It means that you're mine now," he said, as casual as possible.

I shake my head in disbelief.

"I don't belong to anyone, especially not a man I've just been kidnapped by." I said, as I folded my arms across my chest.

"We didn't kidnap you. You passed out, so we are taking you home to the pack doctor to get looked at. We saved your life, you know." Sapphire eyes said back to me, with an irritated look flashing on his face.

"Yeah, after you knocked me out to begin with!" I screamed, feeling the pounding in my head return.

"Well, you're not going home anytime soon. Now that I have found you, you're not leaving my side." he yelled back.

The car ride became eerily silent. My brain started trying to comprehend what this man is trying to say to me, but none of it is making sense.

"Oh my god. How is this possible? How did I get myself into this mess?" I think to myself. "I must be in a coma or something. This can't be real."

"You're not in a coma, and this is very real." the sapphire eyed man says, as if he was reading my mind.

"H-how did you do that?" I ask, confused.

"Mates can read each others’ thoughts." he answered casually, as if I was an expert on the topic of mates. "Not all of them, but some of them will slip through."

"If you're so smart, what am I thinking now?" I say, as I close my eyes and concentrate.

"You're wondering why I keep referring to you as my mate, and you're also wondering how I am so gorgeous?"

"Wow, you're good." I say, sarcastically.

He smiles smugly not catching my sarcasm and sits back in his seat.

My head starts getting groggy again, and I reach up to my forehead. It is bleeding quite a bit and I did not even realize. I put my forehead against the cool glass of the window to try and get some relief as I close my eyes. A wave of pressure falls over me, and it felt like my ears popped like when you are on an airplane.

My eyes snap open, remembering the nightmare that is my life. I rub my eyes, trying to recognize anything that passed us on the streets, but I realized that I am in an entirely different town. The car came to a stop as we are parking in front of an enormous manor. I must have fallen asleep because I cannot recall how long we had been driving for.

"What are you going to tell Lauralie?" the driver says. "She's going to freak!"

"The truth," sapphire eyes says. "Yes, she's human but that doesn't mean she isn't my mate."

"Again, with this mate stuff. I wish I had some answers," I grumble to myself, forgetting that this horrifying man can read my thoughts.

"All in good time, kitten." He says to me, with a small smile.

"Listen, I'm no proctologist... but I know assholes when I see one. Can you just let me go home now?"

The driver bursts out laughing at my joke, but the sapphire eyed man scowls as his eyes turn back to me.

"You'll be happy to know, feisty pain-in-my-ass, that we are home."

"That doesn't make me feel better at all." I say as he pulls me out of the car, pushing me towards the manor.

"Welcome to the Lynche household!" The driver says as he opens the front door.

My eyes try to adjust to the vintage decor, in awe at the size of this house. Within minutes, identical twins barrel their way down the stairs, stopping in their tracks when they see me.

"Who the hell is that?" one spouts out, pointing to me. The other twins’ eyes are on me with skepticism.

"This is my mate." the sapphire eyed man says casually. As the words left his lips, the air in the room seemed to shift.

The twins exchanged glances, and then burst out laughing. The sapphire eyed man stiffened at the twins laughs and gives them a glare. As they composed themselves and met their brothers’ eyes, they immediately stiffened.

"Sorry brother, but... are you sure? She's a little too human, don't you think?"

"I'm sure." he says back, getting more and more irritated at his brothers.

"I'm getting really lightheaded again." I say meekly, but everyone seemed too caught up in the commotion of having a human in the house. No one acknowledged what I had said, as I bring my hand up to my forehead.

A slender blonde lady came rushing out of the kitchen when she heard that her brother had returned, stopping in her tracks to look at me.

"Who's this, Dec?" she asks, with a puzzled look on her face.

"This is my mate." he says, yet again as if they all understood immediately. I was getting annoyed that everyone was treating me like I was not even in the room.

"What's your name, sweetie?" the blonde lady asked as she narrowed her eyes on me.

I give the sapphire eyed man and the driver a scowl, since neither of them bothered to ask me my name.

"Riley." I say shyly, realizing that all eyes were on me.

"Right. Nice to meet you, Riley!" She says, sounding a little bit more at ease. "I swear our parents taught these two bozos some manners, but they never use them."

She walked towards me and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "This is Alpha Declan, my insufferable brother." she says as she points to the sapphire eyed man. His name repeated in my head, as if I were savoring every letter. Alpha Declan.

"This is Jenson, his best friend." she continued, pointing to the driver that I kicked in the head. He gives me a small wave, as she points to him.

"This is Ryan, and Cameron our younger twin brothers." she points to the twins, as they take a bow, as if presenting themselves to the queen.

"How am I supposed to tell them apart?" I ask, a small smile forming on my lips.

"We don't even try anymore." she says, rolling her eyes.

"Oh, and my name is Lauralie! Alpha Declan’s sister." she exclaims excitedly. "There's a couple more of us running around here somewhere, but I'm sure you'll meet them eventually."

"We're going to have to tell mom and dad, Dec." she says, turning her attention to the brooding man in the hall. I never got a good look at him until now. His dark curly hair sat perfectly tousled on his head. He had the sharpest jaw line I have ever seen on a man with shuttered blue eyes, set handsomely within their sockets and beautifully sharp cheekbones. A small amount of stubble appeared on his face, which complimented his face perfectly. He was taller then 6 feet for sure, as I only came up to his chest. He was gorgeous, but I would never admit it.

He turned to me, with a small smirk across my face.

"Busted," he winks at me.

"Crap."

I look around the room, and I realized that all eyes were on me. I feel my cheeks getting warm as I try to read their minds.

Lauralie has beautiful light blue eyes, much lighter than Declan’s. She has shoulder length blond hair, with a curvy figure. Her smile could light up any room she walked into, and it showed. She was beautiful, with a silver tattoo on her neck.

The twins looked like smaller versions of Declan. Both with black hair, passed their ears. They had blue eyes like their siblings, but with crooked smiles. By the looks of them, they were the goofballs of the family.

Jenson had green eyes with blonde hair. He was muscular but no where near Declan. He was a little shorter as well, but he was still very handsome.

"She doesn't look so good." one of the twins says, pointing to my flushed cheeks as my eyes tried to adjust to the people in the room.

"Well, maybe meeting the parents can wait." Lauralie says.

"I don't think so..." Jenson says, looking out the window at the driveway.

Just then, the door burst, and two people were standing in the doorway staring at everyone in the foyer. The man seemed to command attention with his presence, with a face of authority and no expression. Declan looked like him, so I assumed that it was his father. The woman was a lot smaller, and by looking at her face you can tell she was very kind. Her voice is soft as she speaks.

"Dec? What is going on here? We came over as soon as Lauralie told us. Why are you all gathered in the...”? Her words cut off as she sees Lauralee’s arm around my shoulder. She stiffens at the discovery of a human. "Why have you brought a human here?"

Declan glares over to Lauralie, as she gives him an apologetic look. I did not see her use a cell phone, so I wondered how she contacted their parents. The thought left my mind when their father started speaking.

"Why am I not surprised?" Declan’s father says. "Why is there a human in the packhouse?"

I stay quiet, waiting for someone else to answer trying not to gather too much attention on myself.

"She’s, my mate." Declan says, straightening up with his words, looking at his father with a hard expression.

His dad immediately tensed at the sound and his mothers’ eyes widen in shock.

"And, you're sure?" She asks quietly.

Declan nods, almost looking shy.

"Dear, what's your name?" She says, walking towards me reaching for my hands.

"Riley, ma'am."

"Please, call me Elsie. My husband here is Oberon." she said sweetly. "You don't look so good dear, why don't we get you settled into a room."

"I think she has a concussion." Declan says, "She feel pretty hard when I found her."

I gave him a glare as the words left his mouth, knowing full well that he had been the reason I fell.

Everyone started to talk at once about where I should stay, and the noise soon became overwhelming for my injured brain. The stars began to return in full force, making the room start to shake.

"Listen! I just want to go home. It is not my fault that he keeps calling me his mate, which I do not even know what the means! I don't feel so well, and the last time I felt like this I passed out."

Everyone stopped as my voice boomed through the crowd, tears now forming in my eyes.

"I'm sorry dear, but we simply can't let you leave. It's not that simple." Elsie says, trying to reassure me by tracing small circles on my hand.

Her words triggered a breakdown that has been simmering underneath the surface all night. Much to my embarrassment, I fell to my scraped knees and started to heave huge, wracking sobs.

"She's crying! What do we do?" one of the twins says, shocked at my sudden outburst.

"Someone should probably hold her," the other twins says, with a snicker.

"Not helping you two!" Lauralie snaps back.

Before I know it, my body dropped to the ground like a stone and every sound and sight faded into the blackness that consumed me.
