Game over.
My pulse races, part fear, part disbelief, part frustration.
Then I realise something worse: they’re playing with me. Every jab, every kick, every twist is controlled. They’re not trying to hurt me too much. They’re testing, probing, seeing how far I can go before I lose my balance. I’m the one under pressure now, not them. I glance at the back door, thinking maybe I can gain control by slowing them down, using the walls of the van to my advantage, but they’re already ahead of me. Carmen kicks off the seat, landing lightly on the floor, and Connor is crouched, ready to block my next move before I even make it. They anticipate everything.
