“Are you satisfied yet?” The voice was so familiar that my mind went blank, and I felt like I had just been struck by lightning. I froze. Trembling, I reached out and slowly removed the mask. A pair of triumphant eyes locked onto mine, and I felt a wave of dizziness. “Well, well! Running off to have fun with my mom, huh? Have you had your fill yet, Naomi?”

“I saw your devotion even in your betrayals. Even when you tried to end me. Because you chose death over me… and never anyone else. But today—” His breath hitched, his glare snapping back to me. “You chose him over me.” His voice dropped to a snarl. “This weakling!” Tears streamed down his face as he released my jaw with a violent shove. He turned away, dragging in uneven breaths, shoulders shaking. “If Deimos had listened to me,” Madness said hoarsely, “and killed him and Ezra instead of trying to fix them…” His jaw clenched. “I wouldn’t feel so betrayed today.”

Alexander demanded, wiping blood from his lip as he rose. The man coughed, his body trembling. "You just don't get it. They will eliminate us all." Before they could inquire any more, the man's body twitched, his eyes shifting back into his skull. A moment later, he became still. Isabella gazed with terror. “Is he...?” Alexander knelt next to the guy, searching for a pulse. He shook his head. “He’s gone.” Lucian growled beneath his breath, backing back. “What the hell just happened?”

Blood clouded my vision, and sharp pain stabbed my head. Elias had a gash on his forehead, blood streaming down in a steady flow, but he seemed oblivious to the pain, straining to lift me up.
