For a long moment, Daego didn’t answer. His face froze, unreadable, before turning back to the darkness. When he spoke again, his voice was steady but grave. “Markaus, Haemos… I will go in. If I come back out—kill me. No hesitation.”
Gildeon stiffened, mirroring the stunned silence of the others.
“What are you saying, Daego?” Markaus demanded.
Daego exhaled slowly, his gaze flickering between them. “I am not supposed to return from this journey,” he said. “If another Daego appears from the other side, it means I failed. You will have to take him down. He will not be me anymore.”
