NORA POV I was just staring at Derek after he finished explaining that I would be going to a camp with the ladies. As in, everything now is kind of strange. Where did the idea of going to a camp suddenly come from? Lyra, and Maya were already sitting inside the limousine waiting. Of course, I should be happy about going out, stepping out of this palace and having fun, but everything looks kind of sudden. The Derek that I know doesn’t always want me to go out. And this particular camp doesn’t even seem like something Lyra pulled off. It feels more like Derek’s idea.

He laughed as he stumbled backward.

After a few hours in the pool of splash wars, chicken and bull shitting around our little campfire I had to admit it was pretty good just being a kid hanging out with friends. "Movie?" Layla suggested "Horror or hard no!" Derek gave Alley a pointed look. She hated horror but knew that was Derek's move to get the girl quivering in his arms. The boy had serious issues with needing to be the hero.

"Why don't you go find the creator and give them your grumpy attitude?" "What crawled up your ass and died?" Cameron raised eyebrows at Alex. It was quiet for a few minutes, neither of us really knowing what to say. “I really think Eve could do with a change of scenery, we can make up something about her falling and hurting her ankle, that’s what she’s going to tell people outside our crew. What if we both join you two in Montana in a couple days. I’ve already told the crew they’re all off ‘til after the New Year,” Derek said. I smiled. “I think mom would love that, thanks man. We cleaned up a lot of stuff at the house so there’s definitely space for you guys to stay. Brent is going to get it appraised in a few weeks,” I said. “Yee-haw,” Derek said, and smiled for the first time in a long time.

Not today girl, I wasn’t going to look like a clash today. By the time we stepped out of the room, Elara’s arm was looped through mine, her chatter filling the hallway. I let her drag me along, the picture of two friends about to spend a carefree afternoon. My stomach, however, remained tight with the weight of what I knew and I was conscious of everything that was going on. The door creaked open, sunlight spilling across the large pack house windows and there, in an awkward looking trouser, stood Derek.
