“You picked up fast.” I exhaled softly. “Yeah, well… I didn’t want you thinking I fell asleep.” Derek chuckled quietly. “Good.” My brain was still catching up with the night. “So,” I said, leaning back against my pillows, “what happened after I ran off?” Derek laughed immediately. “Oh man… you should have stayed.” “Why?” “Because it turned into chaos.” I grinned. “Tell me.” “Well,” Derek began, “the second you disappeared into the woods, the old couple started panicking.”

He felt his heart skip. "Adventure you say?" He got up, extending his hand out to her. She raised a brow, looking up at him quizzically. "Until you figure things out, take an adventure with me." He told her. She bit her lip as she contemplated before taking his hand. The shocks made them both jump. "What's your name?" She asked him as she slung her backpack on. She didn't seem fazed by his nakedness anymore. "Derek." He told her simply. He didn't expose the Alpha title, not yet. He didn't want to scare her away with it.

"Hey! Are you all sleeping?" Mr Alberty, the Art teacher from Merganzel public school and the one among the two teachers in charge of our camp asks through the microphone, making everyone stir in their seats. "C'mon, wake up all of you. We'll be at Hondbill National Park in five minutes. Hey there! Wake the one sleeping beside you." There was nobody beside me. Adonis was still in the back with the dudes. "Guys, before we reach there, I'd like to give you a few quick instructions although I'm sure you've been instructed enough from your schools," Mr Alberty clears his throat when everyone finally stirs awake.

She looked away from him and stared thoughtfully at the pond. She'd taken the plunge to make this trip solo. Having finally broken free from her dead-end job and her stagnant relationship. She was 27, single and travelling abroad. When she boarded the plane in Sydney she told herself that she wanted a real adventure, and should the opportunity present itself; she wouldn't hesitate. Callum looked like an adventure. "You live here in the city?" "Temporarily. For the duration of my current job. Then home to Scotland. And you?" "Visiting. My first time."

Lucian shouted, forcefully kicking the door open. "Oh, Lucian, am I not your brother too?" Derek pouted. “Well since we are all here, why don’t we do a little family reunion? Huh? What do you think ,Lucian?”. Derek said “Alright, sweetheart, meet my brothers, Enzo and Lucian!”. Derek said, pointing to them. “You know the funniest part? None of them are actually my father's son; they were all adopted!" Derek said. "Do not even dare move an inch, Lucian. There is a bomb tied to Ava's seat, and the button is right under my shoe. If I add more pressure, she is going kaboom!" Derek laughed.

Derek chased after him, his sketches forgotten for the moment. Matteo watched them closely, feeling a sharp mix of relief and worry. The boys deserved this normalcy, but Matteo’s senses stayed sharp. Every passerby, every glance near the park’s edge, felt like a potential threat. “Look, Matteo!” Derek shouted, holding up a small dandelion puff. “Make a wish!” Matteo smiled, crouching down. “Okay, but you have to tell me your wish.” “More adventures,” Derek said without hesitation.

Derek says without hesitation and Aiden smiles, satisfied. Ava watches them, her expression soft. “I’m really glad we came.” She says and I nod my head, smiling at her. “Me too.” I say. “Yeah. It was good to get away for a bit.” Derek says and Aiden leans toward him. “You’re coming to bowl and swim with me right?” He asks and Derek nods his head "Of course, but you need to finish your breakfast first." He quickly nods his head and we finish breakfast slowly, talking about nothing and everything. Aiden tells them about his favorite dinosaur. Derek pretends to be scared when he growls and Ava laughs.

I adjusted my bag strap and kept walking, pretending to study the floor. If anyone asked, I would say I was studying architecture, or probably counting the cracks on the floor… or just planning my escape. Exile had never sounded so peaceful. I reached the cafeteria and grabbed the cheapest sandwich on the menu because my account balance and I are not on speaking terms. Then I looked around for a table and immediately regretted it. Derek Hayes just walked in. Of course he did. The whole cafeteria seemed to change when he entered. Girls straightened their hair, some giggled, and a few whispered like he was a celebrity. Derek just looked calm…tall, broad-shouldered, and with a really great coun

It's two stories, well kept and amazingly decorated. Derek's family is well off as I might have mentioned before and they subtly show it off. Derek's father runs his own company on the human lands and his mother owns her own boutique and styling salon here in the pack. They weren't always together for the most part due to his father having to live on the human lands for his job, but as he grew up his father stayed home more and only drives out for emergencies. I push the door open and make way for the others to come in. They plop down in the couch and I laugh. Walking back out, I help the guys unload everything.

I found myself relaxing slightly as Derek shared more memories from our childhood. "Remember when you were ten and decided you wanted to hunt on your own?" he asked. "You sneaked out during the full moon and got lost in the eastern forests." "I wasn't lost," I protested. "I was exploring." "For twelve hours? Mother was frantic." "But you found me," I said softly. "You always found me." Derek had been more father than brother during my early years. Our parents, consumed with pack leadership responsibilities, had delegated much of my upbringing to him.
