Griffin's craft, in its final descent, had come to rest right beside where my son had died.
They were together at last. Father and son, side by side, in the dark of this abyss.

I had gone quiet for too long. Brody's voice came through the headset, careful and tentative.
"Are you okay? Are you in position?"

I stared at the two wrecks lying next to each other and did not speak for a long time. Finally, I activated the mechanical arm, and the salvage operation began.
