Jayden watches me for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Finally, he nods, a hint of respect in his eyes. “Fair enough,” he says quietly. “But don’t say I didn’t warn you. The people coming after you won’t stop until they’ve destroyed everything you care about.”
With that, he turns and walks away, leaving Joe and me standing in the aftermath of the storm. Joe exhales heavily, running a hand through his hair, his anger slowly giving way to exhaustion.
