Detective Sullivan attempted his way over towards me, but barely passed Elizabeth when Captain Johnston’s voice was heard throughout the room. “Anderson! My office!” I take one last look at Elizabeth before sulking my way into his office. “Captain.” I say shaking his hand. “Detective Anderson. I didn’t expect to see you back in my office, let alone my squad room. How have you been?” His calm demeanor taking me by surprise. I half expected the same reaction I had gotten from Elizabeth. The way I left everything; I was amazed he wasn’t yelling down my throat.

“I didn’t have proof.” Quinn studied him. “Why this case?” For once, he hesitated. “I studied criminology,” he said. “We got a version of this case. It stuck.” It didn’t feel like the full truth. Quinn noticed, but let it go. “For now.” Damian stepped closer to the board, focus locking in again. “There’s a pattern,” he said. “Victims, locations… something connects them.” Quinn followed his gaze. “Then we find it.”

Bob said, chuckling. “Oh I don’t think that’s worse than investigating multiple murders, in which the only clue is the loans that they all the victims owe a certain bank”. “Yeah speaking of which, Danny I’m calling to tell you that you would have to open another case file, a fifth one” Bob said. Danny winced at the thought of having yet another victim of the mysterious killer. “Who’s the latest victim?” he asked “Owen Mclean an English businessman who deals mainly in real estate, I’d have my secretary send an email of the victim’s details to you, for profiling” Bob said.

he said and lifted a small bag with white powder in it. “Where did they find that?” Woods asked. “From the suitcase in the bedroom,” the detective answered. Jacobs looked at Marty. “Yours?” Marty frowned and started pacing. “It’s the only suitcase in there,” the detective added. “Thought you said you were a good cop. Good cops don't have coke coming out of their ears. You know what this means, don't you? We gotta take you in, man,” Woods said. “No. I didn’t do anything. And what about Jackie? She’s still missing,” Marty said in a frantic voice.

“That was the day before yesterday, you have been unconscious since then and a day has passed. Today is Monday.” Chester mouthed an “oh” and turned to look at the TV, the headline caught his attention with its big red letters, it said; New York Senior Police Detective Under Arrest For Serial Murders. “The New York senior police detective, Detective Aiden Shaw has been arrested for the murders of seven young girls over the years. Detective Aiden Shaw had been the detective in charge of solving the murder cases along side his partner, Detective Tia Sparrow. Following evidences presented by his partner, Tia Sparrow, which had him confessing to committing the crimes, Aiden Shaw was arrested yest

"Maybe 'quirky cozy' is out. Maybe gritty Nordic noir is in. I should have set it in a fjord. With a depressed detective and a lot of rain." "Your detective is a retired surgeon who misplaces his reading glasses," I reminded him, sipping my coffee. "He'd get lost in a fjord and accidentally solve a tourism board embezzlement scheme instead." Arthur pointed a butter knife at me. "That's not bad. A crossover series. The Fjord Frauds. I'll make a note." His phone buzzed. He snatched it up, his face undergoing a rapid journey from terror to disbelief to unadulterated joy. He let out a whoop that startled a gull off our deck railing.

“Esmerelda, what a beautiful name for a beautiful woman.” I don’t know who was more shocked by the words that poured forth from that handsome mouth with eye catching straight and -dentist whitened- teeth. From the look of shock on Melanie and Nora’s face, it was clear that they hadn’t expected such a comment any more than I had. “Esmerelda Sleuth is her full name,” Melanie giggled, with emphasis on my last name of Sleuth. “Here’s the best of it. She’s an investigator! Get it? Esmerelda Sleuth is a sleuth!”

It was the Ozarks, after all. She began reading Andy Baxter’s reports. They were perfect. There were no mistakes in grammar, spelling, or punctuation. They were detailed, yet only listed what was necessary for the report. He had done all the investigating he needed to do, and anything further, he had turned over to the detective. So why was he working for this department? This meant she would need to meet with Big Bob and Little Bob. They oversaw most of the officers and would have the answers. Just then, there was a knock on the door, even though it was open. Lindsay looked up to see Big Bob and Little Bob.
