Nancy Cole looked at Anaan in the long light of the evening and thought of her father as a young man in a photograph, standing in this same garden, smiling with his whole face. the goddess said at last, “comes from consequence, not compassion.” Lila’s shoulders buckled. “I know,” she croaked. “I didn’t see the truth until it was too late. Until I lost them.” A deep, dreadful stillness followed. Then the goddess spoke—calm, but laced with divine finality. “I warned you,” she murmured. “That wishes made in desperation carry echoes beyond your understanding.” “I remember,” Lila said hoarsely, closing her eyes. “I just... wanted love. I wanted a mate who wouldn’t reject me. Who’d stay. Someone who saw me.”

But I can’t even deny the fact that he sure has some effects on me and that is since the day, I have seen him and also he had saved me some time before and I am not so ungrateful person. I want to call him but he instructs me not to speak anything and I just shut my mouth and act like I have seen nothing. “So, what’s your last wish, baby girl?” he asks me as I gulp the saliva through my throat. “Last wish,” I get puzzled. I have never ever thought about the last wish in my whole lifetime. For me, there was only one wish and it was the first and maybe it would be the last as well. To get freed from everything and live my own alone life but I guess that will only be a wish.

He grabbed me and rushed to the hospital. “Valentina’s delivering, Lilian! Wish for her and the baby’s safety now!” Valentina Wilson was Alex’s childhood sweetheart. She claimed the baby in her womb was the reincarnation of an angel and that it needed the blessing of a mermaid to survive the birth.

He'd asked me for the second time the same question but this time just two things I'd want to do before the world ended, and I told him I'd wanted to set something on fire. The cave was gone the next day. But the last time he’d asked the question, I had told him I’d want to spend the last moments before the world ended, with him . He looked disappointed. ‘You cannot ask for what you already have,’ he’d said, but now I wondered if he was only disappointed because I had asked for something he could not give. Every day I sat by the balcony waiting. ‘You owe me one more wish, and you must come back to fulfill it.’

Gordon stood from where he was sitting and banged on the screen angrily which made it to produce a shattering sound from the inside. The name also seemed new to Chelsea, but after some few seconds of much reasoning it dawned to her that it wasn't new but just that she had used it some time long time ago and that was when she was in England.
