Devon stepped back into the clearing, his gaze locked with mine, and then he began to shift.
At first, I couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t even think.
There was a sickening crunch, like bones breaking and realigning, flesh pulling and twisting. His skin rippled, stretched, his back arched as if something inside him was clawing its way out. His face contorted, not in pain exactly, but in surrender. His jaw cracked open, reshaping. Hands curled, twisted, becoming paws. Claws. Fur exploded from beneath his skin like a storm had broken free inside him.
