’ I shout. I hear Micah whimper from where I was earlier. I swing my dagger, piercing the creature in its arm. He hisses and steps back as I run back to Micah to help him. The creature I just stabbed now stands in front of me. I fall back, and as I try to stand, I scream as two red eyes look into mine. Its breath is rotten and sticky. I hear howls in the distance and know it’s my family. I stab the creature in the neck and push it away, desperate to get to Micah.

I barely tasted it as I scarfed it down, wanting to get back to work. “Did you learn anything new?” Jarod asked, his back was against the counter as he watched me closely. “There is something I need to discuss with you. It is something I meant to ask you earlier. What is a familiar?” I asked, after I swallowed the last bite. “Well, Archer would be your familiar. He is meant to serve you and protect you. He can function of his own free will but typically familiars choose to obey the one they serve.” Jarod answered as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
