Daddy's Bargain
“Just listen—”
“No.” His tone was sharp enough to stop me. Then, softer, “Nothing’s happening to you.”
I closed my eyes again. “You sound sure.”
“I am.”
The car hit a bump, pain spiked through my arm, and I bit my lip. He cursed under his breath and tightened his hold.
When we finally slowed down, I heard shouting outside again. It was a collection of different voices, not gunfire this time. Doors opened, footsteps ran toward us.
“Boss!” someone called. “We have a doctor inside!”
