Afterward, we lay on the mat beneath the endless sky, our hands brushing, the stars blinking above like they, too, were watching us.
“We’re leaving for Iskareth Hollow tomorrow,” I murmured, my voice barely more than a sigh. “It’s an eleven-day journey… a hidden pack of dark witches. I’m scared.”
The words tasted bitter on my tongue. I rarely admitted fear, not even to myself.
Zevarion reached for my hand, folding his fingers through mine. His grip was gentle, but grounding.
“I understand. It's okay to admit it, but you'll be back I promise,” he said softly, his voice threading through me like warmth in the cold.
