“Okay, here goes. Sasha’s mother was a day-walker. She preferred the blood of humans. While I was with her, I tried to live as she lived and so, yes, I drank the blood of humans. It was not the life for me. Because I was born of a human, and hold within me human genes, I can sustain myself quite well on a vegetarian diet, so I no longer drink blood.”
“Did you kill your victims?” I hedged.
“She did,” he replied
“And you?” I wasn’t sure I wanted to know the answer, but I had to ask it anyway.
“I did once, by accident,” he said.
“Only once?” I held my breath.
“Only once.” His voice was soft, but firm.
“I need a drink.” I moaned.
He reached for a tea cup.
“A strong drink,” I elaborated.
