“Those titles don’t change anything.”
Mirabel clicked her tongue, annoyed, but she stepped closer to the corridor entrance anyway. “If anyone asks, you’re handling post-ritual matters.”
I smirked. “You’re getting good at lying.”
“I’ve always been good at it,” she replied flatly.
I did not wait for more.
I climbed onto the ledge and looked down again. The distance was ugly, but not impossible. Broken bones would slow me down, but dying would be worse.
I jumped.
Wind rushed past my ears as the ground came up fast. I twisted midair and landed hard, rolling through the impact. Pain flared up my side, sharp and immediate, but nothing was broken.
