He held up a gray one with spikes on its back, waving it close to my face. "The stegosaurus is the best one, Mom," Tom said, his eyes bright. Dorian screamed. We dove sideways. We rolled behind a stack of crates. Dorian hit the detonator. BOOM. The explosion shook the entire hangar. The robot’s leg sheared off at the knee. Metal twisted and snapped. The Reaper Prime toppled. It crashed to the floor with a sound like a collapsing building. It was down. But it was not dead. The upper torso was still active. It dragged itself across the floor using its arms. The Gatling guns spun up again. It was crawling toward us like a mechanical zombie.

"No, you're Optimus sissy," he said and I laughed. "Fine, but I still think I'm bumblebee, just saying," I kissed his temple and we carried on playing.

Daniel's voice closer now, right outside Junior's room. "I slept with Optimus but now he's gone! I looked everywhere but can't find him!" Alina stood at her bedroom door, hand still on the handle, listening with growing dread. Optimus Prime. The Transformers robot Alina had given Junior three years ago. The toy Junior took everywhere.
