A constant, gentle murmur in the back of my mind, like a lullaby I couldn’t quite ignore.

I clenched my fists, trying to push the voice away, but it wouldn’t leave. It was growing stronger, more insistent, until it felt like the very air around me was vibrating with the weight of it.
I stopped. Closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
“What do you want from me?” I asked, my voice a low whisper, barely audible over the rustling of the leaves.
Peace.
It was all they said. Again and again. The same word. Over and over, until it felt like it was wrapping around me, pulling me into something I wasn’t sure I was ready for.
