I looked at her, and my voice cracked when I replied— “Because he said he’s not letting me go. He’s not divorcing me.” Emily’s eyes widened. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, what do you mean he’s not divorcing you?” I let out a shaky breath. “I think… I think he’s trying to win me back. My heart back.” Emily groaned like she was about to lose her mind. “He’s ridiculous! When you were begging for his attention, crying yourself to sleep, breaking down, he was nowhere to be found. And now he wants what? A second chance? Now?”

“Give me back my daughter.” His expression hardened, but I didn’t back down. “And after that…” I drew a deep breath, swallowing the sob that threatened to escape. “I want a divorce.”
