Just me in a plain sweater and jeans, hair pulled back, trying to look like someone who wasn’t falling apart at the seams. The waiting room smelled of disinfectant and old magazines. I sat with my hands clasped tight in my lap, staring at the linoleum floor until my name was called. The doctor was the same one who had treated me since the beginning of my marriage—the older man with gentle eyes and a soft voice who’d held my hand through every negative test, every failed cycle, every quiet disappointment. He’d never lied to me. He’d never sugarcoated it. And today I needed that honesty more than ever.

"Okay, but why do you need a doctor? Specialist in what? I may know someone. My cousin's wife is a doctor with a Ph.D. in Psychology—" "She's exactly who I need," I cut him off. Because of this, he frowned at me and parted his lips as if he wanted to say something but couldn't think of the right word. "Can I trust her with my personal information?" I wondered, not knowing why I had to keep things private. "I suppose my cousin's wife could do that for you; from what I've heard, most of her patients keep everything confidential, and those details aren't something you know," he replied, putting my mind at ease.

I asked him with an angry tone. "Well, she might be your wife, but that doesn't give me the right to reveal confidential information about her to you," the doctor said to me with a firm tone, and given how he was talking, I could clearly tell that he was a doctor. "If you are so determined about knowing what our appointment was about, then I will advise you to ask her yourself," the doctor continued.

Dominic also came in and said, "Why are you standing, sit down to wait in line because he just came." "Who is he?" I asked, my head spinning to look back. The middle-aged man entered the room I entered earlier. "Doctor, don't you need an orthopedist so your body can recover? Well, that man is the doctor." Thalita and I looked at each other. "She's been treated by a handsome doctor, maybe it's the second doctor." "There are no handsome doctors here, those who work at this clinic are senior doctors around the age of 50, and no one is young. After all, there is only one orthopedist, he has just entered," Dominic explained. If that's not a doctor, then who is he? Who has dared to touch my body?

Their cheeks flushed bright red at the mention of ‘fancy sexual drama’ as both roamed their curious eyes at the couple. “Ahem! Ahem!” Zack began to choke on his saliva hard. He could hardly breathe while hearing his woman’s blatant explanation. He wanted to laugh so hard but he restrained himself as he glanced at the two blushing nurses. The Doctor glanced at the couple back and forth and spoke. “You guys should be careful next time if you play again. Wounds should be treated with urgency to prevent infection.” he reprimanded professionally.

He pointed at the disconnected monitor and my mouth fell open. “Caleb was here?” I asked as my eyes widened in realization. “Let's talk about that later. Please go on, doctor.” The doctor nodded as he took notes on his jotter before he continued. “Did you feel no pain when you got up?” “It wasn't that severe. My lovely cupcake made sure I wasn't stiff.” He said as he smiled at me and I flushed. “You have no idea how lucky you are to find a wife like her. My wife was like this too.” The doctor said and I could see a bitter sadness in his eyes.

The two doctors came into my room with their equipments. They were dressed in white lab coats. One of them headed towards me, I recognized him as Dr Charles, our family doctor while the other one who I didn't know was speaking to Clark. "It's nice to meet you again Mr Alexander. How are you doing?", he asked as soon as he got to where I was. "Just get this over with, Dr Charles". I laid down on my bed ignoring his question. The other doctor and Clark came towards us.

He kept pacing the halls as a form of punishment to himself for being ignorant the second time which landed his wife and the love of his life into serious danger again. Doctor Adams who was the head surgeon and a specialist in almost all the fields except gynecology, was the one that came forward with all the answers they needed. He stood in front of them with the rest of his team right behind him, he took and proud look at them for the first time in a very long time, he knew they did exceptional well in doing everything they could to save the woman that was currently laying stable but under monitoring in their recovery unit.

“Hello. It is nice to meet you.” “You too, honey. I am Doctor Cooper, and I shall be your gynaecologist. Please come over here and sit on the bed. I am going to ask you a few questions before we start, is that okay with you?” The doctor asked. Doctor Cooper sat in a chair opposite Nina, who sat on the bed. “Yes,” Nina responded. “How long has it been since you have missed your period?” She started with. Doctor Cooper had a file in her hand as she spoke.

I didn’t know whether to swoon or laugh. The elderly couple who rode the elevator with us got off first. We exited on the next floor. Jasper kept his arm around my waist, walking slowly beside me so I wouldn’t slip or trip. He’s incredibly thoughtful and caring. We were next to enter the clinic. The sign on the door read: Dra. Monica Lewis, OB-Gyne. “Oh, hi dear! Long time no see, Rayn!” the doctor greeted my husband with a dazzling smile—as if I didn’t exist.
