I slipped into the shadows, disappearing into the darkness just as his fist swung through the space where I had been standing.
I reappeared behind him, launching a psychic attack. The shadows thickened, and I reached into his mind, projecting his worst nightmares—the people he couldn’t save, the destruction left in his wake, the lives lost because of his power. For a moment, Hyperion’s movements slowed, his face twisting in pain as the illusions took hold.
But then he shook his head, breaking free of the nightmare. He turned, eyes blazing with anger. “That won’t work on me.”
