Ending the calls with Coco, I started thinking, about Don, I remember when I never needed him but those days are gone because now I need him so much, I don't know what to say, I don't know what to do. He doesn't come home. The clock on the nightstand gnaws past midnight, then one, then two. Natasha watched the phone ring but couldn't bring herself to pick up the call. Her imagination ran wild. What if it wasn't really Bernice, then she was putting herself in so much trouble. The phone stopped ringing and Natasha exhaled with relief. When they had hatched the plan of her getting Bernice’s number from Damien's phone. They had not envisaged this whole drama. The phone began to ring once more and it was still the number that was calling. Natasha summed up her courage and picked up the call.

And yet, here I was, lying in bed and sipping hot cocoa. “Twenty more days,” I muttered to myself. A knock came on my door and I sat up. “Come in,” I invited. Dad walked in and I tensed. He hadn’t been here since the second day when he laid his house rules. “What do you want?” I asked, with something of a frown. He didn’t answer. Instead, he dialled a number and placed his phone on his ear. “Yes, that’s why I’m calling,” he said. “I need a favour.”
