The walk through the grand hallways was a nightmare of crimson shadows. The massive windows that usually showed the glittering city skyline were now blocked by thick, automated steel blast shutters that had dropped down during the initial power cut. The mansion felt less like a palace and more like a high-tech tomb.
We descended a hidden flight of concrete stairs located behind the bookshelf in Ethan’s study, entering the subterranean búnker. The room was a stark, sterile environment of white quartz, banks of monitors flickering on independent battery backups, and reinforced titanium walls.
