I wake up practically on Taran again. The covers are off the bed. Taran’s body is radiating heat. Maybe dragons are made from fire? I should ask about what is and isn’t true when it comes to dragons. Taran stirs as I pull away. His arm is around me with his hand resting on my hip. I feel his grip tighten, and his chest vibrates as he lets out a low growl, warning me not to move. His grip immediately loosens, and he stops growling when I relax back into him.

Raisel screamed at the top of her voice nonstop. “There is a dragon in our camp!”, the giants cried with a loud voice, “Kill him”. The giants jumped and raised their hands to reach them, some swung clubs and swords at them. Dragomir skillfully dodged their weapons but he still flew low, careful not to get to the topmost surface which he was sure the giants had covered with a spell. Raisel was screaming nonstop but she couldn’t help it. One of the giants managed to grab his hind legs, he struggled against its hold and then he turned around and blew a breath of fire setting the giant aflame, he scampered about, spreading the fire before he fell to the ground in a thud rolling around.

In a daze, I went down the stairs and into the kitchen, opening the refrigerator door, looking for something to quench my thirst. “Can I get you something?” A voice said. I jumped back, holding my hand over my heart. When I looked over, Uncle Oliver was sitting at the table, reading something on a tablet. “Oh, hi, you scared me.” Oliver stood up and walked over to me. He was shirtless, only wearing some basketball shorts. As he walked closer to me I only noticed the giant dragon tattoo on his chest. In the dim light, it looked like the dragon was walking towards me. “Couldn’t sleep?” he asked, walking up so that he was standing right next to me.

The news pretty much gave everything away and someone had told them to create silver weapons. She nods her head, “Are you having regrets?” “No. It’s time.” “Time for what.” “To be who we were always supposed to be! King Atlas” The smile spreads across her face. Her green eyes glow at me. Something outside explodes, the building around us shakes. Alarms go off and through the small window I could just make out buildings ablaze with flames.

I had no idea where it had come from or what the fuck it was, but it felt too much like an internal lock snapping open. My vision exploded into color, then into nothing as I hit the ground. My fingers dug into the dirt without my permission. “No.” I muttered to myself in pain. “Not again. No, no, no…” “Rowan,” I hissed. “Stop. Stop this.” “Can’t,” he said cheerfully. “This is an activation cycle. You triggered the bloom with that delectable hatred earlier, but now? Now, we begin.” My whole chest seized as I felt another presence within me. This time it was big, coiling and hungry, as if something inside my blood was waiting for commands.
