“This is Princess Bunny.”
I accepted the doll carefully, as if it were fragile. “She’s beautiful.”
“She’s friends with Prince Rock,” Maximilian said, moving the toy. “Come on, Mom, talk too. Like this ‘hello, Prince Rock!’”
I closed my eyes briefly, then mimicked him shyly. “Hello, Prince Rock.”
Maximilian laughed in delight. We began to play a small story. Princess Bunny got lost in the forest, Prince Rock rescued her, and then they met a giant who turned out to be just the neighbor’s very big chicken. Maximilian was so excited his cheeks turned red.
