That’s what they’d promised him. He adjusted the collar and stared at his reflection one last time. But underneath the uniform, nothing had changed. The scars were still there. The halls of Caelron Academy were grand, lined with glowing crystal sconces and towering archways of white stone laced with ancient enchantments. Magic hummed faintly in the air, as if the building itself were alive—watching, waiting. As Elarion walked through, the murmur started. Low at first. Then spreading.

Or they finally did. The path to the atrium twisted through unused halls, places I hadn’t explored even in my darkest wanderings. Old banners sagged on the walls, most of them faded or blank—the colors leached by time or magic or both. As I descended farther below the known levels of the academy, something inside me shifted. A pull. Not toward danger, but toward recognition. The stairwell ended in a circular landing. A door appeared in the stone. It wasn’t built. It had no handle. Just a seam—one I wouldn’t have noticed had the coin not flared like an open eye.

She shook her head at her family when they all laughed, the tension that had been running through them dissipating as they all stared at Daniel. "Where would we even buy all this stuff?" Clary asked, her eyes lingering on the book list. She was intrigued by the potion book, wondering if they had the same potions in this other dimension or if she could learn anything new from it. "I haven't got a clue, but I'd like to get my hands on that Art of Defense book," Damon said, wondering who this guy was and what qualified him to write a book about defense, maybe he was some bigshot fairy in this other dimension. It sounded fascinating and he was always looking for new techniques.

But this guy, looking at his face, I see an amusing friendlessness and a familiar warmth I felt the first time I met Gigi. Something in me softens. Maybe not everyone is an enemy. Maybe the academy can be different. Maybe I can be different here. “Alright, thank you so much for your help,” I agree and smile back at him. “Come on,” He turns, gesturing for me to follow him. “Let’s get you to class before you end up in the dungeons.” “Dungeons?” “Yes, we have dungeons, and no, you don’t want to find out why.” Adam chuckles beside me and helps me with my suitcase. “Dylan’s harmless, I promise. He can be annoying sometimes though.”

He had been in the dungeon, forgotten and left to rot all these years but then somebody took the effort to silence him so surely his words should have an ounce of truth atleast. Hence, I was determined to find the answers to my questions. Positioning the ladder under the huge desk, I climbed up and ran my eyes through the spines. I read through the titles, the ones that I could, and scratched my chin, wondering what to pick up first. ‘Mages of the ancient’ A title of a book caught my attention, and I wondered if this could be it. Reaching for the giant tome, I slowly pulled it out and struggled a bit to hold it in my hands.

His red eyes deepened, indicating his desire to sort things out. "One of the book of history has gone missing last night. The Book of Creation. And then this morning, it is found on its shelf again. Not a piece was taken nor changed," Merko said. I had been to their library a couple of times and had seen that book. However, due to my very busy schedule, I could not read it since I have to prioritize knowing more about potions. "It is not allowed to take the books out of the bibliotheca. How come that it has gone missing? Who was patroling last night?" Yamiko asked.

The words seemed to leap off the page, filling the room with an eerie sense of foreboding. Everything written in the book didn't make any sense to either Stella or Morgan. They found everything in the book quite absurd. The book spoke of witches, dragons, angels, vampires, and the devil. They didn't believe in such a thing at all, weren't they just fantasy? If they were to interpret it, it only meant that Grandma Elizabeth was a witch while the stranger guy whom Stella had picked from the streets the previous night was the devil.

I turned to another, and it was also blank, until I flipped the pages until the end, and realized everything was blank. “What the hell.” I muttered under my breath, then flipped back to the first page. “Oh. Oh. Fire. I should try fire, first.” I said, with a smile, and then closed the book. I held it tight, and then turned back to leave the dungeon. But then, I sensed another presence. Someone was already right in the dungeon with me. Who could it be? My lips began to tremble as I tiptoed out of the library or whatever this part of the dungeon would be called.

Why would Maggie’s ancestors want to conjure and evil spirit or raise the dead? Fascinated by the pull of the words on the page, she softly whispered the Bring Forth the Dead Incantation. A cold chill swept over her and her temples throbbed. She carefully placed the ribbon down the interior binding of the pages and closed the book shut. The crystal didn’t look quite so out of place as it lay against the bottom of the pages. In fact, there was so much room between the size of the cover and the size of the pages that crystal tucked right up into the gap when she set the book on end. It was a perfect fit.
