That shook me more than the collapsing house. Seraphina lifted one hand toward the stairwell. Kael moved beside her. They looked like old war. Beautiful. Terrible. Not enough. The shadow below the stairs pressed closer. The house shrieked. The walls bowed inward. The journal skidded across the floor and opened near my feet. Words burned across the page. It was a small thatched bungalow with probably just a single room, I wasn’t sure. The front door was unlocked and left slightly open. Inhaling harshly, I stepped in and closed the door behind me, instantly greeted by the smell of dust, rust and decaying wood. The house was empty, just as it was the day I escaped. It was a front for what really lay in the basement underground that one could never really guess just by looking at the desolate state the house was currently in.
