I can hear the roaring of multiple dragons outside, feel it in the shaking of the concrete walls of the castle, and smell it in the dust and debris that shakes loose as the walls quiver, fighting to maintain their position while the dragons roar threatens to bring them down. The moment I’m back at the dragon egg, I wrap the long silk scarf I brought around my neck, tying in in a knot and letting it hang to my waist. I throw the switch to turn off the trigger, but with so much noise going on around the castle, I can’t tell if it turned off or not.

Beta's statement loosened my legs. I was made to take a few steps back until Zacharias caught me. I looked at the Alpha Kings in turn and concluded. "We have to search one more time," I said as I stared at the two thick books in my hands. I recognized one of them. It was a book that contained recipes for concocting potions. It was the book my aunt used often when she practiced her potion-making skills. The cover of this book had even stuck in my memory.

It’s like my own personal heaven. I walk slowly between the rows, dragging my fingers along the spines of the books. Some are new. Some are so old their titles have faded off completely. I find books on werewolf history, on herbs and healing, on the different bloodlines of the kingdom. I even find one that looks like a cookbook, filled with strange ingredients I’ve never heard of. I lose track of time flipping through them, sinking into a worn leather chair near the center of the room. The quiet is peaceful. So different from the chaos outside these walls.

"It is Draven. He is fine." A pause. "Of course he is," Darius said quietly. The librarian spent the next ten minutes carefully examining the fallen shelf, the scattered books, and the damaged railing. Kael helped stack the books into neat piles. Several of them had fallen open to random pages, and as he collected them, one caught his eye. He picked it up. The title on the open page read: On The Nature of Probability Manipulation in Pre-Civilization Eryndor. Kael read the first paragraph.

He deserves it for not bringing me any breakfast. My stomach growls as I keep exploring my new room. There are books all over the place. I pull out A Healer’s Encyclopedia, A Collection of Diseases and Ailments, and A Compendium of Poisons from the shelves. One dusty book stands out to me. Experiments: Book One is scrawled in nearly unreadable handwriting on the thick spine. I flip it open to a random page. Wolves Healing Times is written in messy letters at the top of the parchment.

“My beast is begging for his mate, I can’t hold him back any longer.” Just the memory of taking my mate has me horny all over again. I guess my sister is right, I am a horny dragon. But I just can't help it. I love my little bird. I pull Phoebe loser to me and I breathe her in, and try to refocus one the point of this meeting. I'm normally really focused... unless my mate is sitting next to me, smelling so damn tempting!

Cobwebs covered it whole. "Jeez it’s uglier than I remember,” Dante muttered. Kael lifted it out, coughing at the dust. He slightly removed the cobwebs. "Here we go." He opened the grimoire. They all crowded around the table like kids sneaking a peek at Christmas presents they’re not supposed to touch. Onika stood on tiptoe behind Alpha, craning her neck. Kael started flipping pages so fast that a few almost tore. "Found it!" he announced.

He bowed and was gone as quickly as he arrived, leaving the heavy satchel behind. I lunged for the bag the moment the tent flap sealed. I untied the cord with shaking fingers and pulled out the book. It wasn't ancient and brittle. It was a modern reprint, but the cover read: Healers' Lore: The Legacy of the Wounded Crown. It was a medical text, disguised as a historical relic.

Chapter 54 Filing The Petition. Nerissa, fully engrossed in her merscript notes, glances up from her writing as the scholar enters the bustling kitchen. She exchanges signs with the cook, who provides her with a list of provisions that are needed for the upcoming journey, but are currently unavailable in the kitchen. Another maid gracefully moves about the kitchen, swiftly gathering supplies. The cook, in the midst of signing about the need for pots and pans, watches as the maid examines and sets aside various stone-carved cooking utensils. The maid finally discovers a non-stone pan, repurposed from the human world, its surface polished and adapted for merfolk use. It stands out from the oth
