“Hey, I am just doing what I’m asked. It will get me out here alive.” She takes another puff and blows it in my face making me cough. There is the familiarity in the smell and taste of the little particles of smoke that make their way to my oral cavity, provoking those tiny little sneezes which call for Dustin’s attention. His black eyes sparkle against the now turned-on park lights as they stare into mine, reminding me of fireflies and awakening the tiny little beast I’ve discovered just today because of him. His right shoulder is leaning down a bit as he watches me, wondering what the hell he’ll do with me, what the hell he’ll do with all of us.

“I heard you work at Anderson Entertainment as a PR manager. Isn’t that stressful?” “Sometimes. But I enjoy it. So it doesn’t feel like a burden.” “Why not work for the Hollis Group?” “I wanted something more exciting. The Hollis Group is a little… boring.” I instantly regretted saying that. Seeing that I was about to turn and leave, he rushed up to grab me before he knew it, but he wasn't controlling his own strength and ended up tearing open my suitcase. Everything inside fell out… but it was just a couple of worn clothes, academic certificates, and a black urn. Luca froze seeing all of that and dropped to a crouch, staring at the black urn. Was she okay? It was that exact moment that Dustin came out of the kitchen with a late lunch. He immediately froze. In slow motion, his entire body turned until he saw Dahlia. I was rooted in my spot while watching this unfold. It was clear what had just happened. Dustin was an amazing man. He was an Elite warrior, one of our pack’s best. He and I were close friends, which was why he gave me such shit at the bonfire about not being eighteen for a drink.

I scoot closer to him and poke his side, the touch sending a wave of sparks down my back. Dustin grabs my forefinger between his rough fingers and pushes it away from his side. “ I have SUPREME healing abilities. I heal scars. I don’t get them. ” I am about to yell smug asshole in his face, but my words die on my tongue as my gaze falls on my lips. They are stretched into a smug smile—not a smirk that’s aimed to mock—but just a smile that does something weird to my stomach. I stare at him, holding my breath, and without blinking. Does his smile reflect in his eyes?

The only sound was the faint ticking of the clock on the nightstand. Jojo stared at him, her mouth open in absolute disbelief, before she burst into a loud, snorting laugh that she had to quickly muffle with a pillow so Claire wouldn't hear her from downstairs. Joshua clenches his fist and takes a deep breath as the guy walks up to Joshua, “Do you have a problem with that?” Dusty comes from behind, grabbing him by his arm, as Winter runs towards him, “Joshua, wait.” Joshua pulls his arm away as the guy whose drinks spilled takes a swing at Joshua; Joshua ducks down. Joshua then grabs his arm. “What's your problem?” Dusty takes out a knife, “leave my house now.” Winter pleads with Dusty for Joshua to stay, and he walks out the door. “You know what, Winter, just let it go.”
