More pink balloons taped along the walls, flowers spilling from baskets, gift boxes piled on the coffee table, cards scattered like they’d been tossed in excitement. Laughter spilled from the backyard terrace, Vivian’s sharp cackle mixing with Lydia’s high-pitched squeals. My skin crawled. It was weird hearing them sound so damn happy. Everyone was here. They walked along, arm in arm, with Grandpa Jordan behind them, and Cadence took in the beautiful scenery. Every lawn was perfectly manicured with beautiful flowers and cute little touches—like bird feeders and fountains.
